I was a VW guy before I tried out Nissan S-chassis cars, then went to e30s.

    Had (in order):
    Mk2 Jetta 1.8-8v
    2x Mk3 GTI-VR6
    Mk3 Golf 2.0
    Mk2 GTI 2.0-16v (swapped, originally a 1.8-8v car)

Loved the last one the most. Light as hell and kept the original close-ratio 8v tranny so it topped out @ 110 but got there in a hurry.

    Congrats on the jerb.

Now THAT is a nice looking 80.

Yes! Currently drive a MKV GTI, but will hopefully be selling it soonish to pick up an e30. Also really into aircooled VWs. If I had the money and time I would have another Type 1 right now.

    Here is my current car:

Also I know there are a handful of guys from golfmkv.com from here.

04' R32. Greatest car i've ever driven, let alone owned. I cry to this day reminiscing about her. Now for daily duty (college shit) I have a Jetta TDI wagon. It's fairly reliable, put 15k on it in roughly 9 months. Had a starter go out and the battery, and it likes to consume oil. But besides that, 45 mpg mixed. I can't complain.

EDIT: Also had an A6 avant (wagon) that had 200k with the original transmission. WORST FUCKING THING EVER. I loathed that piece of garbage. Non stop lights off the dash going on, and smoking out of the valve cover, and exhaust falling off. 2.8 tiptronic. All the problems of an audi and without any of the speed.

My GF's family is HARDCORE Audi/VW/porsche. They have a 2001 A4 1.8t, 96 carrera (tracked at VIR every year), a 2008 A3 2.0t and an 98 A4 2.8 with almost 300,000 miles on it. The thing WILL NOT die. All of the cars are MT
We do have a little bit of a rivalry going on between families.

My dad did have a 70's VW bus with the porsche engine but later swapped it over to the bug motor.

I like volkswagens and if i was ever getting a kid carrying car for my "future wife" it would be a jetta TDI wagon. ALTHOUGH BMW is bringing the 328d wagon to the US in the near future.

    I currently have a 2001 Audi B5 A4 and VW Passat wagon(my first wagon).

Yeah I love 'em both! Both are 1.8T engines. It has some quirks here and there, but if you keep up the maintenance they are nice cars for DD and hauling and such.

Pretty peppy too and that AWD is pretty good on the Audi. Parts are fairly inexpensive(CL) like maintaining a Honda Civic.

Buddy of mine had a jetta 1.8T, got to drive it and it felt nice enough. Ended up breaking down on him though. I've been wanting to to get a Golf r32 to DD, love the look and have heard a lot of positive words about them

The 2001 to about 2005 with the (Audi) 1.8T were pretty good cars. The 2.0 was bad, and the 90s were very bad.

    +1

My Avant with snow tires on was like a tank and unstoppable in the Winter when going up to the mountains. That's why I originally bought it and then I turned it into a racecar and it kept going back to the shop to get fixed.
