    325is with 5k limited Tach?

    Hey guys,

I just got my first E30. It is an '87 325is. Not doing much research on the tachometer of different models, it wasn't something I focused on at the time of purchase. Once I got home and started researching I noticed that I should have a tachometer that displays up to 7,000rpm's with a redline of 6800rpm. Well mine only displays up to 5000rpm....As far as I can tell the engine is the model correct engine and not the E engine.

    1. How the f?
    2. Why the f would someone put that in there?
    3. How easy is it to put a engine correct tach in?

Have you checked the vin# to see what model it actually is? I think the person who sold it to you may have told you it was an "is" and it is really an "e". Do you know the difference between the "i" and "e" engines by looking at the intake manifold?

Yeah, I checked the VIN before I bought it. It's a from the factory 325is. I did check out the intake manifold to compare and it is not the E intake manifold that I can see.

Thats an I engine, cluster swap, so miles are inaccurate. Try r3ving past 5k bro, bet it goes farther.

That's fucked up if that was done intentionally. Cluster swap is easy though, few screws here and there. I can't remember if you needed to take off the steering wheel or not.

Not if you have an M-tech1., not sure on the 3 spoke sport wheel, almost 100% that you do have to if you have either of the 4 spoke wheels.

No joke! The guy I bought it from races e30's and had it for 18 months...He didn't mention doing the swap, so I dunno. I'd think he would know better.

I don't know about the MTECH 1 but it does have the 3-spoke sport wheel and sport seats.

You dont need to take off any wheel. I took my cluster out of my 91 318i and did not have to take out the air bag wheel
