    Smog after engine swap?

    Hi R3v,

I was wondering if you guys knew how hard or easy it is to smog an e30 after an engine swap. My engine most likely has a cracked block so I was thinking about engine swapping it, but then there's also having to get it smogged which also costs quite a bit in itself.

I'm afraid that it won't pass the visual inspection or things of that nature. If any of you guys have advice I would love to hear it. Also I live in California and passing smog is a bitch here. I want to learn the steps of doing an engine swap legally and all the other things that come with it.

I was going to go with an e36 m50b25 or possibly even the m50TUb25 if it's in my price range, but it will definitely be an e36 2.5 engine.

    Thanks,
    Daniel Alejandrino

Still not very hard or complicated. Put an OBD1 e36 engine in it, and make sure you have everything looking stock (incl air box, exhaust especially), and make sure you have the right cat and exhaust piping post headers. You should be fine once you have all that and pass the sniffer.

People act like it is all hard and impossible which didnt help me out any when I was going through the process. If someone just told me it is not too hard, have the right exhaust piping, stock looking engine bay, then you are fine. The hardesnt thing for me in the process was finding the right legal cat for the 94 325is motor (Which is actually an s50 but I told them it is a 94 M50), and having a stock looking airbox. Thats pretty much it.

Cool! Thanks for the encouragement. I pretty much have my mind set on doing this now.
