    What do you guys think?

Saw an ad online with the following:

"Looking for BMW e30 I have a volkswagen gti 1.8t blow off valve installed (not a silly loud one) magnaflow catalytic converter and back again not loud and obnoxious low tone and sounds great aftermarket air filter carbon fiber installed by previous owner. Only 164xxxkm never winter driven no rust HID kit also. Cloth interior heated seats mirrors and sunroof fantastic car very fuel efficient too 600km a tank. The flaws, a piece of trim missing to fold driver seat up it is a 2 door crack in taillight and scuff on drivers rear fender and that's it! Drives like new just want an e30 real bad. Car is easily worth 7000$ comes etested only BMW 3 series up to 91. The 2000 is rare to find the 1.8 in it please email. Will take cash offers as long as its around the price listed above thanks for taking a look!"

Only one picture of the VW - but it looked good. I'm somewhat interested, as I love VW hatchbacks, but I'm leery too. Also, I love the hell out of my E30. Obviously, if I did it, I know what to look for, etc. so I don't get hosed. In a lot of ways, I know it would be a trade up, but I also know I'm sacrificing things that I love about the E30.

    Thoughts, opinions welcome? WWYD?

Do you really want to put yourself in his position?

The only car I would consider trading my E30 for would be an E30M3.

Having owned a MK2 Jetta, I will never own a VW again.

I emailed the guy for shits and giggles. I'm not really serious about this, but I was curious to forum reaction.

The forum reaction on trading an E30 for a VW should have been predictable.

I'm more amused than anything. I'm not being very serious about it. Some flags are waving already.

                The convo so far:

                Me:

I saw your ad, and I'm a bit intrigued. So you're looking at a straight-up trade of cars?

Can you tell me more about yours? Do you have maintenance records for it?

I have a 1986 325. Has the Eta engine. Has just over 280K KM on it. Did the Timing Belt and water pump at 265 K KM. Since its an '86, no Drive Clean required. I had it certified last December, so it shoudn't need anything. I have paperwork going back several years, as I bought it from my best friend.

Right now, just seeking some more information from your end.

                The response:

Hey so ya I bought it at beginning of the year the owner before never drove it in the winter. I had to get some work done to get it road worthy about 1000 I have some receipts from the local volkswagen specialist I take it to. I got two new back springs one was on the way out a piece of the exhaust patched up which it needed for safety but I now have after market on so the exhaust is better than before. Other than that I'm not sure on paper I do believe the previous owner gave me some too but I will have to get Back to you on that.

                Me:

Looking forward to your email. Who'd you take the car to?

If you could try to dig up some service history, that'd be great. Do you know when the timing belt/water pump was done last? I owned a 2.0L before and the change interval was 160K km.

First, Im assuming English isnt your first language, if it is, well, then you need to go back to 5th grade.

Second, stop trolling, no one here wants your 1.8 GTI on a BMW forum, your asking RWD people if they want FailWD...

                  Third, No

After I started asking hard questions about the maintenance, the guy shut up fast, which I expected. I think we're done here. LOL
