Before you repeat what your clueless liberal friends or worthless parents tell you at the dinner table, it would be a real good idea to think for yourself first. Better yet, take a basics economics class so you can see why Capitalism works. Letting the invisible hand move the market and not the government has been, is, and always will be the most efficient way to control anything that has a market. There is a reason the USA remains the land of opportunity and that reason begins with a "Capital" and ends in a "lism"

Still not convinced? Take a history class and learn why socialism fails time and time again.

Don't believe me, move to a 3rd world country. Then you'll have far more important concerns to deal with then worrying about what rims to stick on a 325e next.

Name just ONE country where free-market liberalism is at work today. Definitely not here with all of our agricultrual subsidies and corporate tax breaks and industrial subsidies. What about the subsidies to the cotton industry here? We pay the cotton farmers over $4 Billion to grow $3 Billion worth of cotton, thus keeping prices high and not allowing developing nations such as Burkina Faso and Mali produce the cotton for the world. Furthermore, with institutions such as EXIM Bank, there is essentially no risk for corporations to invest overseas; and when the loans are defaulted... guess who picks up the tab. Thats correct, we do.
Now I'm not 'down on the US', the agricultural subsidies of the EU are much higher than here.
I'm very curious what we're going to do at the beginning of March when the WTO starts to allow retaliatory trade sanctions against us because they've deemed corporate tax breaks illegal. The EU has already said that they would impose very high tariffs against citrus fruits from Florida (brilliant political move).

I would never ever take classes in this country that teach about Socialism, because they are full of $hit, and the books were written by some Joe Shmo

So let me get this straight, you have the opinion based on supposed classes you took in college, yet you have failed to provide any evidence as to why on two occassions (except being clever the first time and typing ASS with two $'s), and with that hard-set opinion, again based on god knows what (we do know it's not your friends or family, so maybe you came up with it on your own, oh master of economics theory) you refuse to take any other economics classes to view an alternative to capitalism because, even though they are written by people with a far greater economic knowledge than you will ever have, they are, in your words, some Joe Shmo.

Just because whatever half-ass country you came from couldn't adapt to capitalism doesn't mean capitalism sucks, it means your people are to god damn corrupt and lazy to make it work.

you know what it is i have no patiance and time to go through details and explain how it all works over the computer. I may not agree with %50 of the things that go on this country, but I know I wouldn't agree with %90 of the things that go on in most others. And the harsh reality is that I would probably be killed or imprisoned for not agreeing with those things, you see what I'm saying? This country may be fucked up, but we have SO MANY freedoms and opportunities that those other countries will never have.

Capitalism is awesome. I don't even know where to start. Maybe the fact that taking away rewards for extra effort will create a lazy nation. For $, people become harder workers, more efficent, and greater thinkers. Capitalism moves us to think of better ways to produce goods, ways that a socialist would just do what he's always done. I agree that Reality shows in general SUCK. but who cares, the fact is that Eric loves this show. He eats, breathes, sleeps capitalism and a free market society. It's like a singer watching American Idol. :D

Capitalism rules. It is what this country was founded on. Triangle trade (although the slave part wasn't good) showed the power of capitalism and merchants.

Eric, I'm all about the "invisible hand" of the market you refer to. The market itself creates the most allocatively efficent amount of supply and demand and specific production. Messing around with the economy is silly - You'll just fuck it up. Eliminate more restrictions and policies. And bring back Reagan (or his clone).

Ken, I don't devalue your economic views, but I'm a huge fan of Laissez-faire politics. We should just leave the economy alone. How can we properly tune a machine as large or as complex as the economy. It is not an engine for god sakes. Things such as price floors only create surpluses, just an example of intervention. As for cotton subsidies.....America must protect its production. Maybe other nations need to step up to be competitive, like follow suit, or increase efficency. I mean, we could say the same thing about Asia taking technological jobs, or Mexico stealing electronic factories and car production.......free market isn't at work today, but it should be.
