Why 5-lug over 4-lug......?

If all you're after is wheel choices, it makes SO MUCH more sense to run adapters. I had them on my car for over a year, and never had a single issue with them. They never loosened up, I never had a single wobble or vibration, nothing. MUCH more cost effective, and they are perfectly safe, no matter what the non-believers may try to tell you. -
I thought it was mostly for brakes...
I mean, if you have money, there are many, many choices for custom sized, custom spec'd wheels out there.Leave a comment:

I've got probably $1,500 into a complete 5 lug swap. That is money above and beyond maintenence of stock parts. The reasons i did this swap were:
- car needed a brake job
- suspension re-fresh was required because of a complacent previous owner
- bottle caps on the car were boring
- selling off some stock parts helped recoup 10 percent of the cost
- 225 section width tires have really helped with the grip(which is hard to do on an oem 4 lug wheel)
- alignment is setup perfectly
- learning experience
- would do again or swap onto a really clean shell should mine rust out or wipe outLeave a comment:

I have a backup plan if it doesn't fit the fender. I just wanted to aim at a wheel that whould give me proper traction and then go from there.Leave a comment:

you can run smaller. you could do 9s if you run R888 or RS3s all the time. bc 10 doesnt fit well under the front.
oh are you the guy apping for Adam Savage?Leave a comment:

Nothings wrong with them at all, except that none of them are wide enough for my liking. If you haven't seen my build lately i'm going to be north of the 500hp mark. I want some sort of traction......right now for the price and weight the Apex ARC-8 17x10 is what I'm leaning towards. That's about $1400 shipped.
I foresee issues with a smaller wheelLeave a comment:

So, you are saying you don't want to spend $1k/wheel I am guessing. What is wrong with factory BMW wheels?Leave a comment:

I used z3 hubs/rotors and calipers in the rear so about the only thing I gained was 25mm or width. I did replace the bearings though....Last edited by IronFreak; 10-30-2013, 12:34 PM.Leave a comment:

Depends on how it's swapped, but in the case of m coupe/roadster rear trailing arms you net larger rear bearings and axles as well which put up with to increased hp, slicks, and track use better.Leave a comment:
