In regards to the M3 ...carfax question.

Lets keep it civil this time guys.I ran a carfax on the M3 i want to buy and it looks really weird to me.Here is the link http://www.carfax.com/cfm/FSBO.cfm?r...FX000005791295

Do you guys see something weird? Why has its odo not been read since 9/1990
Dont inspection stations have to report as well.I ran carfax on my other cars and they all show inspection dates but not always the miles. The odo is working and has 114 k is what i saw.Seems right for the age but too many for the awesome condition.

It sounds a little strange, but you have to remember that some states don't report to carfax. I know of a couple cars that have been in multiple accidents and their carfax reports come up clean. I don't know specifically about Texas, but in IL all emissons test results show up on a carfax report. The mileage of the car is recorded at every test, but it only shows up on carfax about 50% of the time. This being said, a carfax report is not a substitute for common sense and a thorough inspection. A carfax report is simply an additional precaution you can take to lessen your chance of getting screwed. Be careful, ask questions and pay attention to the seller's mannerisms. And on top of everything don't rush into something you are uncomfortable with. If you don't feel comfortable with the something, don't buy the car.

I'm fairly certain that Texas reports to Carfax. Despite buying my 325is in New Hampshire, it was originally bought in Texas... and had about 7 salvage titles issued in the mid 90s, if I remember correctly.

Edit: checked again and I'm 100% positive Texas reports. My car has 6 Salvage, 1 Rebuilt, and 1 Recontruct Titles. It's taken more of a pounding than Pamela Anderson.

i would not trust car fax at all. there are soooo many ways to get around things and not everything in every state needs to be reported. its just another company that makes money. i would take the reports with a grain of salt and not rely on them at all. just my .02
