Well, I'd for as long as I can remember appreciated the E30 along with it's contemporaries as being something special, but I ended with my touring through something of a happy accident, and well, it's done it's thing for me since spring of 2012.

Thieves did. Some assholes flatbedded my last car so I went out looking for a new car and obtained bmw 540, promptly sold whe discovered the e30.
My don't quote me list:
Originally posted by george gravesI could be wrong, but I don't think it's a smog test type of thing. IIRC think it's against CA law to *sell* a dual outlet muffler as a replacement for a car that came from the factory with a single. But don't quote me on that.

For me I needed a cheap beater car. Dad told me about a 85 325e for $400. I knew nothing about a BMW niether did my dad, but looked at it and it was a inline 6 5 speed with rwd. Sign me up!!! I've had 3 e30's so far. But my heart will always be with American cars.

i actually had zero interest in cars up until about 3 years ago. i lived with some guys in the NW who all had various bimmers including a 2002, e34,e28, and a few e30s. and i guess being around them all the time they grew on me. it wasn't until i moved back home that i found myself wanting one. so i basically stopped everything else i had interest in and now ive a had and e36, and two e30s, in three years.

Way back... I bought a 1967 1800ti in '73. It was a gray market car, with only 12k on it. The PO could not keep it running correctly as it had two Solex side draft carbs that were a bitch to tune. I drove that car all over the back roads of Maine, before radial tires, sliding and drifting on its little bias-ply tires.
Then in '78 I picked up a two year old 2002, and drove the shit out of it in the mountains and canyons of Utah. The E30 is just a continuation of my love for BMW'ssigpic

Started way back when my grandfather had an 87 L7. I used to take that car out for joy rides and the composure it had and the eagerness of the big six really left an impression on me.
Fast forward to a friend at church who races Porches (944s and 914s) plus owns a Porche/Alfa shop told me I ought to buy a beater to take to the track and have some fun. He tried to steer me into 944s, but I had fond memories regarding that L7 and knew I had to look for a suitable BMW.
The e36 was my first bet because of cost down here in San Diego, but I was persistent and picked up an 85 318i for $450 that needs paint and some interior work. Local California car so no rust and otherwise painfully original.
Eventually it will be getting an m30 swap as soon (or as slow) as I go through the motor and make sure it is up to snuff.
The e30 is simply a classic. Just look at them.Si vis pacem, para bellum.

My infatuation with E30's started when I was a teenager, but I didn't get one until I was 22. It bit me hard when I worked at an indy shop and one of the techs gave me a ride in his boosted E30. Needless to say, that made me serious about getting one. 7 weeks later, I bought one for pretty cheap and have been in love with it ever since.1989 325i - 2.7i, Holset H1C, 60lb injectors, whodwho MS-PNP.
