    Stupid E30 Rear Ashtrays!!!

How the hell do you fix these things? I have three of them (one in each car) and they ALL are broken in that the springs that hold the lid have become detatched so that the lids just flap around wildly...

Is there a way to re-seat the springs?

don't think there is a way to reset them, just glue them shut if you don't use them. What we need is a change tray for those of us that don't smoke

there is a way to re-seat the spring, it's so easy.... just hold one end w/ screwdriver, the other w/ your finger, push one end of the top in (the end of the spring should go b/ween top and lil guider, once you've got one end in (btw, try to go as even as possible) then do the same w/ other end.... i did that for bout 1xmil times before it actually went it and was opening and closing normally.

Yeah... I've put the spring back in on mine too. It somehow fell out while in a parts bin. Its not that hard.

I have never had a broken rear ashtray in any of the e30s I have owned (or bother's, or girlfriend's). I guess that counts 5 e30s, and none have had a problem with the ashtray.
Seems weird that everyone seems to complain about having broken ashtrays.

I do what Boom-monkey does. I use my front one though; unless thats what he meant. Mine was over flowing at some points that I had to put some in the little holder space next to the ebrake :O That was really annoying with the sound of coins sloshing back and forth for a couple days before I got sick of it.

Nah, I use the rear tray. It's bigger and easier to take out.

i took out the rear tray and turned the ampty spot into an ipod dock so i can charge my ipod and play music through an input... FM modulators suck and it was an easy mod
