m30 vs 24v swap

I would suggest talking to people that rebuild/modify BMW engines for a living such as Korman, Rowe, Ireland, or others before ruling out a cam change. Paul Burke told me a simple cam change to an otherwise stock B35 can add significant power and torque and not just near redline. Sounded to me like one of the best bang for the bucks mods on the m30 but to each his own.Leave a comment:

I actually don't think hot cams are that cool. The flat torque of the B35 is what drew me to it in the first place. And from what I can tell cam jobs just give you a little more breathe near the redline, and take away grunt on the bottom end.Leave a comment:

^ Throw a cam in that future B35 and you will be well rewarded says my friend.Leave a comment:

Once my DD is sorted i plan to pull a b35 and rebuild it myself, learning along them way. And drop it in my project.Leave a comment:

The junk yards around me sell all heads for the same price, no matter what it comes off of. its 75 bucks. they do half off weekend about 3 times a year. so you can get an m50 or any bmw motor for dirt cheap then. but living in arkansas, there are hardly ever m30's in any of the yards here. This is the truth - my local wreckers has had a good half a dozen of them recently where no one pulled the engine and they went to the crusher. I'd have grabbed a spare, but have no where to store it at the moment.
I did grab a spare top-end though for the time when my rockers apparently are going to break ;D (hydraulic lifters aren't exactly bullet proof if a PO has run shitty oil either!)
It was fully reconditioned with new valves for $130.... hmmm not too many M50 / M52 heads round my parts for that kind of money yet.Leave a comment:

I'm the one who's supposed to be picking them up. ;)
Not like I have enough in my shop to build at least 3 M30s.
Around here they get scrapped because the redneck junkyards see "BMW" and want $1k for a 200k mile M30.Leave a comment:

they don't die thats probably why
BMW thought they could make the entire cooling system out of plastic on M50's we saw how that worked outLeave a comment:

i went from driving an e30 with m20 straight into an e30 with m50. only difference is light weight fly wheel, headers, fan delete.. strong rebuilt motor. my e30 m50 pulls way harder then an m20 lol. its not just barely faster. but i am getting power hungry. right now im waiting to put in an m54b30 rotating assembly. should be where i want it to be after thatLeave a comment:

God fuck damnit now people are going to be snatching up M30s in droves and the price is going to skyrocket.
24v or bust. Such a better engine all around. Don't mess with those old heavy M30s. They are pure junk. If M30s were so good, BMW would still be making them.Leave a comment:

Ya know, they say m30's get better with age! haha
I would take an m30 swap over an m5x anyday. Hell, my e46 feels like it has zero low end grunt when lugging in third gear, my m20 can pull harder than it!Leave a comment:
