Strange Part in door panel

i found this part in the door, though it was a piece of the door lock since my door lock does not worked, opened it up today and found this. Do you guys know what it is?

that's the door prop mechanism. It has a bar that rides in it and keeps your door propped open at two different detents.

Yep, aka the door check. your door probably flops open and swings freely without it, unless that's the broken off portion of one that was replaced that ended up in the door from way back.

That's why the door doesn't stay open!!, I will look at the other side and figure out what's wrong. Thank you very much for the quick help

You should definitely fix that. If a gust of wind comes from behind you it can blow the door open more and crush your front fender. Its not hard to replace; I had this problem once before as well.
