    Autozone alternator

I recently purchased an autozone remanufactured alternator and battery durlast on both.
My question is has anyone ever had a issue where an autozone alternator iternmittently does not charge. I bought and installed it and it charged the battery ran fine then it said service battery charging system after about 50 miles of driving and 3/4 stops. It died and I got a jump then the alternator started charging again. It's like it's working then it won't.
It's a Chevy equinox. Likely a computer issue right? But it the computer isn't throwing any codes.

Go back to Autozone, they have a battery tester, which will tell you if the battery is good. They can also check the charging system with the same machine. There you will find out if the alternator you got it good or bad. If it's bad, take it out and have them replace it thru the warranty, if it has one.

I could never get those batteries to last more than a year or so.

I work at az and every now and again the alternators will come brand new not working. Go back to the store and have them test it, if it tests ba they will swap you for a new one no questions asked. Or at least they should.

I have tons of experience, I had 4. Three of them didn't make it out of the driveway, one lasted maybe 500 miles. I can swap an alternator fast as shit at this point from pulling so many out. I replaced it with an OEM unit and I haven't had a moment's trouble since. If you like replacing them every 3 weeks, sure, keep doing it. Otherwise, pony up and save yourself a shit ton of trouble. Yeah, I spent a pretty penny on it, but at least I can drive more than 50 miles from the house and make it back.

Make sure you have someone who knows what they're doing when they test it. I had one tested and the guy clearly had no idea what he was doing and it test good and bad within 5 minutes because he had no idea where to hook the wires. I always had great luck with their batteries. Had one in my last car for 6 years and never had a bit of trouble with it. Have one in my E30 now.

could it be the belt tensioner is loose and intermittently charging? might be something to look into

When I replaced the original alternator on my Celica, I went through two Advance Auto Parts alternators which each died after a few weeks. The third one was good for 1.5 years until I sold the car. They were all replaced under warranty.

I could swap that bad boy out in <5 minutes in the parking lot.

I had that problem with a Autozone Alternator for a Lexus that had to be replaced 2 times each one only lasted a week.
But the Duralast battery lasted 7 years in my E46

Basically the moral of the story is, just because it is a brand new part, doesn't mean it works.

I would inspect the wiring at the alternator first though. Make sure it is grounded properly and check for corrosion at your battery cables and engine ground strap.

If you take it off, they can test the alternator off of your car. If it's bad, they should replace it under warranty.
