    Shipping a head

    Hey guys,

How do you all go about shipping a head in a safe way? Also cheapest way? greyhound?

I have seen all kinds of mumbojumbo online and not sure what to trust

Shipping is from AZ to NJ so kind of far

    any thoughts?

I would buy a rubbermaid container about 6" bigger than the head in every direction. Then use LOTS of paper to pack it in tight. Seal the lid with zip ties (through drilled holes), the tape over that. The 3" of packing material all the way around is critical. There needs to be something to absorb impact, like crumple zones on a car. Paper works well because it won't break down like styrofoam. I get rolls of it for free from my local news paper. They can't use the last part of a roll of un-printed news paper, so they give it away.

I shipped a diff this way and it worked very well. Sent it greyhound.

^^^Yeah, that's a great way. Basically my description, but with expanding foam instead of paper.

If you dont want to use the oddly shaped totes you can make a box out of plywood and 2x4s and fill it the same way, that way you can make it exactly the right size and not pay extra for size.

Should have dropped by Evo I would have helped you with this !!

I have expanding foam bags. Thats what I use to ship super chargers and fragile things. But we ship trannys in wooden boxes. Works very well. You could make a box around the head.

It took 3 posts before I realized he was talking about an engine...

I was royally confused and disturbed.
