Having a mechanic check out an e30

So I've got my eyes on e30 with clean title but no maintenance history. I havn't gone to look at it yet but the owner says it runs and drives with ~135k on the clock.

I've been told to have a mechanic check it out before buying it. I think this might be a good idea especially because of the lack of maintenance records.

For SoCal people, who do you guys take BMWs to in the greater Burbank area? Does it matter for a quick pre-purchase inspection?

Try The M Shop in Eagle Rock

They're off Eagle Rock Blvd. and Colorado Blvd; near where the 2 Freeway and the 134 Freeway intersect. Owners name is Joe. Website is www.TheMshop.com

Wow thanks Jon, this looks about perfect.

Do you have any idea how much mechanics normally charge for pre-purchase inspections? I've never had one done before.

Also, does anyone have experience with getting a seller to let you drive there car to a mechanic? How does this normally work?

Call Joe on Mon and ask for a quote for a pre-purchase inspection. His shop charges $85/hr (dealer is between $109 - $125).

You have to work out whatever arrangement you can with the seller. Each seller and transaction will be different. The more buyers they have interested in the car, the less "hoops" the seller will have to "jump" through to sell it. Or vice versa. You could always leave a safety deposit or get them to drive it to the inspection.
