Prototypes for custom wood shift knobs

Hey guys first post here so bare with me. I recently just got my e30 and thought of ways to improve with the knowledge I know. I've been a custom wood worker for 10+ years so first I thought replace my crappy autozone shift knob with the looks of custom hardwood shift knobs and I got to thinking that the r3v community might be interested in these as well. I just started turning a few shapes tonight but I am starting to research what most people like as there shift knob. So this process will all take a couple of weeks but I'm just gauging interest in this. Even if it's a couple of you I wouldn't mind helping out the community in any way possible. Here are the only two shapes I made tonight.

I haven't figured out pricing but I can tell you it will be a hell of a lot cheaper than certain places online. If I can get some feedback from all you on certain shapes and if you want. And here's one of a knob I plan to make soon. Sticking with the 3 stripes of bmw

    Thanks guys

This one doesn't look very ergonomic

But seriously, nice looking work. I may consider one depending on price.

I really like that second one. wood shift knobs are cool. I have a wood steering wheel now, and honestly wouldn't mind a sweet custom made shift knob. Especially if the staining could match my wheel. I look forward to seeing how these do. If you make them I'll be buying one for sure!

              Very similar to this one.

What kinds of wood are you using?
It's not bad paint, it's called "patina"

Hey guys thanks for the feedback. The reason they are prototypes is because I'm still thinking of a way to attach them. I am using many different woods like mahogany, cocobolo, olive wood, etc. You name the wood, I can get it. These two were just turned out of maple because I had some scrap laying around

If you could make something like what 88e30is posted I would definitely be a buyer if the price was right.

Would love one of these. Would be cool also if you could carve out a roundel to place sticker on.

I like the first one. I attached the purple heart shift knob I made by drilling the hole in it just the right size for the shaft so it was a friction fit. I also added lead shot inside the hole at the top with a stopper so that it had some weight.

Okay guys I turned the layered one today and came up with a shape I personally like and it will be in my car with my akg shifter.

And in reference to an afternoon treat. I plan on making a knob like the momo one posted this weekend. Thanks for the interest and the knobs will likely be the $60-70 range depending on wood and certain shapes that are harder to make than others. Stay tuned!
