Ebay Germany Disappoints (rant of the day)

So recently Ive been making some purchases on Ebay Germany, but the folks on the other side of the water aren't being too kind.

I made a mistake of purchasing from a guy who did not accept paypal payments. Anyways he asked the money to be sent via bank wire. I knew the fees were very high for international transfer fees, but this dude insisted. After sending the money, he said he only received about 80% of the payment. ...Duh you idiot, there is a huge bank fee.

After waiting a few weeks, I couldnt wait any longer, so i opened the case. Ideal thing to do wouldve been to call ebay, but I dont speak german and never made a int'l call. I ran all of the sellers responses on Google translator, and it was just all excuses followed by few "pig" and "shit"...Nice fella. After making some comments about the situation, this is what ebay germany says:

Even though you receive the items, but then stated that the article may substantially differ from the seller's description. You have already opened another case for clarification of the problem with the seller.
:hitler::hitler::hitler::hitler::hitler::hitler: They closed the case and now its time for me to enjoy the product I never received.

Few weeks later, I made another purchase from a different german seller. The product arrived this time (thank god!) but the product was wrongly described, and half of the parts are crap.

I contact the seller when he sends me the usual "hey why you no leave me positive feedback!" I tell him the item does not fit, and something needs to be done. We agreed on a $10 partial return (far less than replacement part) if I leave him a positive feedback. I do so right away, and about a month later, still no word from the seller.

This is the only 2 transactions Ive made with the germans, and both have become a nightmare! Its not like they weren't aware I was in the US, as Ive asked permission before making the purchases.

ebay.de is an amazing place. It's like the stock market, lots of winners and losers.

I've had pretty good success with ebay.de but they do have different rules over there.
Payment by bank transfer is much more common as their banking system makes it more affordable, they don't like dealing with Paypal but will accept it if requested.

Not to say I haven't gotten crap product sent to me, but since I had Paypal protection they refunded my money and when the seller refused the product it was returned to me as well. So kind of a win-win.

Ebay.de requires a lot of due diligence beforehand. Better to clarify payment, get better pictures before making any bids.

When you wire funds you have to select the option to pay for the fees on your end. Why wouldn't he be upset that he didn't receive full payment?

My one and only experience was not really that good.

            seller advertised euroweaves
            received IX wheels...bent
            complained with pp/ebay
got my money back and was able to keep IX wheels.
profit of $200 for selling the Ix wheels (yes, disclosed bent wheels)

the whole process took ~4 months.

Isn't this specified in the listing, and available to you prior to bidding?

As for the wiring fee, I struggle to sympathize with you as I'm often on the other side of this with international customers. I make it VERY clear that I am not responsible for any wiring fees up front and simply ask to receive the amount due. Most of the times there aren't any issues if we're clear on terms. Almost EVERY TIME there are issues its because the terms were not clear (assumptions being incorrectly made rightly or wrongly by both seller and buyer). It is NOT strictly the buyer or sellers responsibility, it just needs to happen. So if your initially not clear on something that might effect the transactions its on YOU to clarify prior to purchasing.

Do NOT opt for shipping that does not include a tracking number, no matter how tempting. Even if it includes "insurance".

I'm not trying to be overly harsh, just what I've learned.

I bought a wheel from ebay Germany. I made the mistake of bidding on it after realizing that it says I cant and I did. Using google translator I asked the seller if it was ok to keep bidding even though I was in the usa, she said yes its ok (assuming its a she). I won and she sent me item within a week , my item was better then it was described on the listing. I was happy I left her a positive rating and she told me enjoy the wheel greetings from Bavaria. Nice seller. Lol

If you dont know the language then you shouldnt bid on something. There are a lot of scammers on ebay and they are just waiting that someone who doesnt know the language bid on it.

i have had various results too. some sellers are supreme dick chuggers over there. some are really awesome. i ALWAYS send an email first asking if the will take paypal and if they are willing to ship to the usa. through experience, i have decided that this is my policy from now on: if i get a decent response from the seller and they seem like a decent person, i bid. if i get something terse or the seller seems at all like there might be an inkling of asshole going there, i do not.

The one issue I had with an eBay.de sale, I ended up without much help from eBay.

A guy had, what he said to be, three 17x1.5" lips for my rare set of ACT SC wheels. I said I would like to buy two lips, and asked for pictures. The pictures he sent were perfect.
When the lips arrived, I got one perfect one and one that had obviously been refinished to the point the lip edge was gone, and the profile had completely changed.
