    Value of a 1991 318is slicktop

I have found a 91 Alpine over gray cloth 318is slick top with original paint and panels. Dash is cracked in several places and front cloth seats are ripped pretty badly. Headliner, rear seat, door cards and carpet are nice. Two very minor dents and no rust. Odometer stopped at 204K a couple years ago. Head was removed and serviced also a couple years ago. Newer AC compressor and heater blower. Everything works and it drives well. Without pics, can you guys suggest a value for the car? The owner wants me to make an offer since he isn't really in the mood to sell. If I do get it, will be posting a WTB for some nice gray cloth sport seats.

Thanks for the advice in advance.

I suggest you take a look through the for sale threads on R3V, Craigslist, and M42club.com ... you can use that as justification to back up your offer. Just ball parks but I have seen very clean examples go for $6-8k recently. Prices seem to be going up and often for pure junk.

    Good Luck OP!

Thanks. I have been checking out ads and as you note prices do seem to be going up. I wasn't sure how much the miles and worn interior would hurt this one or if the slicktop really adds much to the value. Body is very straight and gaps are great. I think I can buff out the paint. Right now, I am thinking $2500-2800 would buy it but a nice set of seats and better dash would cost another few hundred minimum.

If you get it for that price and its as clean as it sounds then you got a great deal. The cloth seats on the 318is's are usually torn due to the way the fabric is made.

In the fall I bought a 318is slicktop with grey cloth sport seats for $2500. It has 104k on it but a dent in the drivers rear quarter, bent up front valence, and cracked dash. It needs fresh suspension but that's to be expected unless the seller has replaced it recently. From browsing the FS section it seems like I got a good deal considering the "low" mileage.

He finally gave me a number late yesterday which I agreed to and then he raised. Tough to buy from someone like that so I will keep looking. Thanks for all the advice.
