    Liquid head gasket repair/sealer?

    Anyone have experience with this kinda stuff?



    Seems to be my coolant is slowly leaking into the oil and I don't have the downtime to take my e39 528it off the road until the e30 is back together. Just looking for something to stem the bleeding until I do a proper repair.

    I know people that have had decent luck with K-seal. That being said, once you dump that stuff in, it's in there. I'd decide which is the lesser of evils; leaving it for now, or coating everything with product permanently.

      I'm trying to avoid anything thats a sediment style sealant which i believe the k-seal is? Is that one of the ones where the thermostat has to be removed? I really don't like to take this quick fix rout but i really just need a quick temporary fix.

            honestly if it was a beater I'd say go for it. If you plan on keeping it any length of time just find the time to get it done. I've seen sealers work, and have used them before, but the life span is questionable. The last car I used it on lasted about a year before the headgasket really blew out. Changed it out, and immediately had more power and car just felt healthier.

                In his position, that doesn't seem like a good reason to not do it. As long as it doesn't damage the engine and lasts for a little bit I think that's what Swanny is looking for.

                  i bought a can of that stuff recently. i have not used it but it seems like it could get a guy out of a jam. i read a lot of reviews about it and they are generally pretty positive.

                      The reasons not to use something like that are that it isn't a permanent repair and the leak will probably soon return and that it gunks up the entire cooling system. Which pretty much means a new radiator, heater core and heater valve when you are forced to properly repair the engine. No to mention the difficultly of flushing the stuff out of the block.

                        Those head gasket quick fixes will DESTROY everything in your cooling system. A quick fix now will result in a costly, and labor intensive repair in a month, or two if your lucky. My friend killed his e36 with that stuff.

                          +1 that stuff will actually reduce the cooling efficiency of your engine (your car will run hotter and shittier than before when you just had the leak.

                          Also, that stuff is designed to harden once it settles, which means that your rad, heater core, head, block (basically anywhere the coolant flows) will need to be either replaced or hot tanked (block and head) to get the remaining sludge out.

                          If you plan on dumping this car in a year or less, I say go for it. If not, just fix it right.
                          If it's got tits or tires, it's gonna cost ya!

                            I believe i was over reacting as i'm not finding any sludge anywhere else other than the oil cap area. Ended up getting a rather large amount of snow in the engine compartment from my brother leaving the hood open during a large storm we had while I was at work. Had to shop vac out then spark plug recesses so maybe water got in that way? Haven't had any over heating or performance issues so it's time to look in another direction.
