I went to a local shop this past week and in the lot is a e28 M5. The paint is faded, no clear coat, not factory wheels, no dings/dents, the entire interior is ROUGH... actually the whole car is rough. The engine had a cracked head, but its no longer there. It was a customer's car and its been there for 3-4 years. The block is still in the engine bay and the intake manifold and valve cover and other engine parts are in the back seat and they look great.
He said he would more than likely sell me the car... but his asking price was 1200 or so. I'm thinking that even though this car is rare/handbuilt, the price is still too much. Pristine e28's go for 11-15. This thing is in TERRIBLE shape. My idea was to buy the car for around 500-700 max, possibly part it out, but keep the engine. I'm having doubts though because I know parts for this engine are hard to come by and are uber expensive.
Mainly what I'm asking is what should be done. Either way, I want to buy the car for cheap and if I can't use the motor, just sell off everything.
Any input would be helpful.
Thanks
