    Tranny Rattling

Is it normal for the tranny or diff to rattle? Especially at high rpms? Its just every time I rev my car I can hear my tranny rattle. It's sort of getting annoying and I was wondering if they sell like a case for the tranny, to reduce rattling.

    Thanks,
    Saul

Not sure about that getrag (sp?) 260, but rattling doesn't sound normal in any tranny. I'd start by changing your tranny and diff fluid.

    good luck.

its possible to have a "knock" in your driveshaft, mine does. that could be what your hearing. does your rattle increase with rpms?

...I changed all of my diff fluids recently with kendall still raddles.....

Yes, it does increase with RPM's, especially around 4500+...Is there anyway to fix that man???

        Thanks,

Are you sure it isn't your catalytic converter rattling?

I am pretty sure, why would u think its the cataylitic converter, if somthing external was rattling it would variate in sound, meaning it would have a slighty different noise every time. I think it just might be my tranny. I replaced my pilot(throwout) bearing, and guebo, also the clutch, and it still rattles.

when you replaced the guibo, did the rest of the driveshaft look okay? you inspected the driveshave U-joints and center support bearing ?

Does the noise seem like it's coming from underneath the ashtray in the center console ?

Before I replaced my cat it was rattling really bad, it would get really loud up in the 3500-4k rpm range. It sounded essentially the same every time. It would get progressively louder. I think the ceramics inside of it were broken. Then I replaced it and haven't had any rattling since.

                    Scrape anything recently? Loose heatshield?

Probably not a center support. Those just 'rattle' during high-loads, at low engine speeds.

Nope, bought the car like that about 5 months ago. Iits not a loose heatshield, i checked that one. Allthougth my heatshield i think is starting to get loose because there is some minor soft rattling comming form the front at certain RPM's occasionally. Like what ken said, the next step im going to do is replace it with a new cat, I was thinking a DEC cat, or I might just go with somthing cheap like around 100 dollars.

What I'll do, since im interning at UCSD Distance Learning department, is to video tape my car on tuesday and post it up on the forum and see what you guys think.
