    Replacement key

My buddy recently lost his key. I brought this key offa ebay for him http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-Uncut-Li...35fb7b&vxp=mtr. So now, he has no other key so they can get the template off of, can he go to the dealer or somewhere and give them the vin so they can cut it for him? Anybody got a solution for this

Yes, go to the dealership with the title in your name, and they will have a key ordered. Will take 2 days to arrive.

Yes, your friend can call up the dealer and give them his VIN. He'll have to be able to show them proof of ownership, but SHOULD be able to get him a new key.

I say should because I just had this problem. I bought the car with a broken key, so I called the dealer to have them cut a new one.. Well apparently the VIN doesn't have a key code associated with it.. now I have to buy a new ignition tumbler with key and lock rebuild kits for the door locks. Good luck to your friend!!

You should be able to go to your local dealer and get one cut from the vin but its like $70+.

What...? It's definitely not $70. I ordered a key for my e30 through the dealer for under $30.

Any idea if that price is for cutting the key or for a whole new cut key?

that would be a whole new key... not the lighted one, just a plain black plastic one i think. then you can take THAT key and have it cut on that fancy schmancy lighted blank

It's the total price for exchanging proof of ownership for a steel cut key.
