    east coast safety inspection

Hello there, anyone in the va beach area know of a decent state inspector I can take my car to, that I dont have to worry about them messing with anything.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I can't help, but I'm curious: What are you concerned an inspector might "mess" with?

well, I dropped a car off a few years ago and it came back with a dent in the quarter panel. And the argument was that it was there before it went to the shop. Now when I say "mess" with my car, it is a generalized term for anything that could happen while in the shop.

I completely agree with the "messing", it happened to my car once, the idiot could not work the clutch and was making my car shutter and grinding first. I cannot help for a shop around you, I do agree with finding a good small shop, I am religious to my one shop.

Wow, so weird. Whenever my car gets inspected, I stay there and do any of the "leg work" like turning things on and off or moving the car. Just lucky I guess.

If you're concerned, do a bunch of research from other people who deal with local shops often, then do a walkaround with the service writer/manager/owner and agree on what damage, dings, etc. are or aren't there and note them all. Have them sign the sheet and take a picture with your phone so nothing can be added if more damage is done. Make sure to explain to them why you're doing it and tell them it's not that you don't trust them, but you've had bad experiences before; otherwise they'll just think you're a dick.

Remember, when it comes to anything where you're trying to establish fault, documentation is the only thing that matters.

I work in a shop, and trust me they will think you're being a dick regardless, a lot of mechanics take pride in their work and having a customer they've never seen before be paranoid about their car getting damaged WILL be taken as an insult. I would take it to a bmw shop that will understand and respect your classic bmw, anywhere else is going to see just another old car and depending on their ethics may or may not care if they scratch it or ding the door on a lift. harsh reality is that unless you do the work yourself, which you cant for an inspection somebody is going to have to get in your car and drive it.

I love bring my talon places, I set the rev limiter to 1750 rpm and watch them struggle.

Record the condition of your car with your phone or a camera. Do a full walk around the car and record the condition of your interior. And include a shot of the current day news paper right before you take it in. If they "mess" with your car and say it was like that before they did anything, show them the video. And they will have to fix it.

They need to get over themselves. Its not out of the ordinary for someone to want to ensure a brand new shop (to them) is on the up and up.
