I finished my supercharged 928 (mostly)

For anyone interested in my most recent project...

for the past 2 weeks, ive spent about 5-6 hours every night in my garage getting this thing working. My buddy fabbed the entire thing from scratch on his S4 (i have an S) and my car was the first car to recieve the kit.

Minor differences along the way made this install a complete pain in the ass, but we've finally got it all together.

I was able to drive it for the first time last night. Its running 4psi, non-intercooled. It runs an Eaton roots-style supercharger sitting on top of a completely custom intake manifold. Running 30lbs injectors with a BEGI/CARTECH 2025 FMU.

The response of the motor has been substantially improved. Just tapping the throttle and you can tell this thing means business. Unfortunately, I seem to have a problem which may be fuel (running rich) related. Basically, when you're on the throttle, at some points the motor will stutter and lose power. We believe this to be the FMU... but we adjusted it down to about 3:1 boost ratio. Initially, the problem was very bad, after knocking down the FMU quite a bit, it runs much better... but still stutters sometimes.

Another thing is It may be possible that from running rich, the plugs are fouled, and under load when the psi goes up, the extra air might be blowing-out the spark... but i don't know how common that is. I won't know until i take the plugs out and check them.

Either way, before someone posts one of these:

I'm going to say that I'll have some decent pics up shortly when i get the engine bay cleaned up a bit better. My next goal is to get the SMT6 in as a data logging device, then using it later to further tune the car.

928's are so awesome. Be sure and get a video to go along with the pics. I pray you don't screw anything up with that car ($$$$$$)

Did you go colder on the plugs? What size were the original injectors? 4psi does warrant larger injectors and additional fuel pressure. Congrats.

@Matt, I had video of my buddies S4 running 8PSI (capable of 12.0 1/2 mile without tuning) but it was just too shaky. Once I get a card in my PC to take video off the cam and put it on hdd for editing, i will get some videos going.

@weston - yeah, the car has been out of commision too long. I still have that trunk lid if you want it... all it needs is a repaint =)

@tcd - right now, i'm running with the OEM plugs. Once I get everything figured out, i'm going to drop the plugs 1 cold level. Origional injectors were 24lbs. The S4 used to have 19lb injectors, and jumped up to 30lb injectors which have been working well @ 8psi boost - so i think i should be good for a while.

Once I get the SMT6 in there, and all the issues sorted out, i'm jumping up to 6psi intercooled. After that, i'll purchase a twin-screw whipple and run 8psi intercooled in addition to a water/alcohol injection system i'm going to work on fabbing.

Our goal is to have both cars run high 11s in the 1/4 mile and be perfectly streetable on pump gas. I will be entering grassroots motorsports 'best bang for the buck' contest. I think having an 11 second street car for under $10K is a very good contestant....

Mike, if you need someone to take that trunk lid off your hands i will gladly do it. What color is it? Does it come witht the trunk lid spoiler? If you looking to sell it look elsewhere (gotta save money for books next quarter :() but if you just need to get rid of it i'll stop by one of these days.
