88 325is chipped, short shifter, Bav-Billy suspension, RD sways, Polly bushings, and 16 inch wheels as my daily for past four years.
95 530i 5spd bone stock as my daily for past two months. Suspension upgrades to come very soon.
Bottom line is the cars are worlds different to drive. The e34's handling is touring like; better in long sweepers and spaces where overall speed can be maintained. It loves to soak up highway miles. It's an extremely stable feeling car. While it can be a hooligan when pushed, it feels business man exec at it's baseline. As you push it, it'll respond by letting you know, "yeah I can take some more".
The e30 is a school boy race car in feel; every day all day. Awesome in short spurts and hard cornering. The refinement is non existent and while I feel good behind the wheel, I don't ever recall comfortable coming into the equation. You can daily it in a refined manner, but it will tempt you to mash on it every step of the way.
Both great cars to work on, with many parts still available.
For me the e34 is the winner, but with these cars that's all going to be based on the level of refinement you want. I'm going to get flamed for this, but the car that's probably the mix of these two would be an e36...
