Taking the bimmer on a long trip, how should I get her ready?

1991 318is with 108k going to be driven from Oregon to Vail, CO and back within a week. I'm expecting to drive approx 2750 miles.

What should I do to get my bimmer ready for this trip? What supplies should I take with me?

I have an entirely new cooling system (radiator, water pump, fan clutch, hoses, thermostat) in the last 15k miles. I will of course get an oil change before I go, but is there anything else I should worry about? I just bought a set of new tires.

My mechanic made a comment that my alternator was a little noisy, anything I should worry about here as long as it's charging decently?

I drove mine a few kmiles from kansas to california, without any problems. What I took:

Extra quart of oil, gallon of water, DMM, extra fuses, relays. Spare wire with tape, strippers, shit like that just incase. I included some duct tape, just basic stuff. Make sure your spare is in good shape, and that you have your jack and everything u need for a tire change. one thing to consider is if you have aftermarket rims with longer lug nuts, they probably wont work with stock baskets or bottlecaps, so bring your shorter lugnuts with you.

Oh, and take your head, and don't do anythign stpuid.

tape the front end of your car up with blue painters tape. it will save you from numerous rocks and tons of bug scraping.

Car will be repainted this summer so I don't care too much about rock chips.

The new wheels are 15x7 Euro weaves with BF Goodrich G Force Sports The tires were extremely difficult to find.

".. two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi colored uppers, downers, laughers, screamers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls."

Not that you'll need all that for the trip.. ;-)

Make sure all the general maintenance is up to date and fucking rock out man, you know your car the best, and if you feel confident it will most likely make it.

I second painters tape thing, its helpful and takes like ten minutes. You positive your gettting a new paint job?

Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge, and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon.
