Some shops just can't get it right...

I had some stock replacement muffler put on by Midas about 7 months ago and yesterday it snapped off and broke the resonator and the muffler itself. :hitler::hitler:

So I had to get some piping from Autozone to replace where the resonator was and a Thrush glasspack to use as a muffler because I'm broke beyond belief. Looks kinda ghetto but doesn't sound half bad maybe a little too loud for DD purposes.

How do you not put a stock muffler on right wtf. It's literally 8 nuts and a hanger...

I'm sure 50% of the people that work at midas didn't pass the third grade

Uuhh take that shit back. Pretty sure their exhaust warranty is at least 12 months / 12k miles. Considering how long it's been and what happened there's no way they should charge you a prorate or anything.

Well, on the flip side. I for one inspect every bit of work ever done to my e30vert meticulously. I identify if the work was done correctly before I hand over cash and drive off. I also know that midas is NOT a quality muffler or brake shop and typically hire a bunch of "hacks" to perform the work. They pay low wages for the mechanics (i use that term loosley) and I know that one gets what they pay for.

That being said I do nearly 98 percent of ALL the work on my e30 or go to a person /shop that has quality work that can be shown by other previous clients.

I know what poor penetration of welds look like as I weld myself so there is no way that shit is gonna fly with me.

Moral of the story - Want quality work - Go to quality shops and pay quality prices. Period!

Oh and I think that they should be able to recognize the Number 1 when you show it to them because that was covered in the second grade.

I know I know I am only seventeen and I don't have any experience with welding and stuff but there's no way I'm letting this slide

They are going to claim you hit something - pot hole, speed bump , road obstruction and that is what tore off your resanator , muffler , piping , etc. I am sure there is a clause in the work order that will absolve them of any damage caused as a result of these aforementioned issues.

Its going to be your word against theirs and they will (more than likely) tell you that you will need to pay for the rewelding and repairs as a result.

Be prepared. Dont yell and scream as it accomplishes nothing. Instead, just say this. "Is Tuesday good for you?" They will undoubtedly ask you what do you mean is Tuesday good for me.
Reply well I need to know what day to schedule our appearance in small claims court and I also need to get the spelling of the managers name as he would more than likely be the one who needs to make an appearance.

Trust me the manager is not going to want to go to small claims court over this on a Tuesday or any other day for that matter. If he does and is willing then by all means file in Small Claims for the 24 dollar fee. Add the 24 dollars to the amount you are suing for so that you can recoup it at the end of the process if you win in Small Claims.

Its really not an emotional thing , but more of a card game. They dont know what you have in your hand and you are bluffing. Except if they are good with it that bluff needs to be put into practice.

You can also go at it with the angle of The nice kid approach (as already mentioned above) - "look , Im a kid and I need this car to get to school to better myself in life and I spent my hard earned money to have these modifications done" You are trying to illicit sympathy with this approach and sometimes it works out favorably unless the prick you are interacting with is a cold hearted beeeee otch.

There is also the Poligamist approach- "Look Im a kid and need this car to attract and capture all my future wives" . "Yo I need the womenfolk to handle the domestic duties, yo. So this car need to be functional and have my muffler sing to my future wives like a mating song "

I really appreciate the advice and I wish I would've taken pictures of the job they did but I never really thought I should. Luckily I have a friend who knows how to weld and he put on the glasspack for me. It's a little ghetto but it sounds kind of nice and it was free. I called Midas today with nothing but sidetracking conversations and such. I tried to contact the corporate people with a complaint but they have not gotten back to me. I will call Midas again tomorrow and really let them know how unacceptable this is and how it was actually very difficult for me to come up with te 100+ dollars they charged me for such a shotty job

                            Burn the Midas down.

...but only after locking the manager inside.

                            Only reasonable thing to do.

But really, even if they stupidly welded on a bolt on exhaust how can they not get welding right, considering they are using hacks it was probably mig, which is like impossible to do wrong if the machine is even set up remotely right...
