    Need Advice!!!!

Timing belt snapped and I'm putting in new m20b25. Before I put the new engine in I wanted to change all the important gaskets on the engine but I don't know which ones to change. Any other ideas while my engine is out? Motor mounts, transmission mounts etc? Or should i put an m50 engine in?Thanks for all the help. This will be my first time ever swapping an engine.

What are your plans for the car? Do u track it? Is it a daily driver? And if you get another engine, still change all the gaskets and the rod bearings.

It's my daily. I don't track it. What are rod bearings? What are all the gaskets I should change?

Then I would put an M30B35, from the 535i and the 635csi. It's the perfect daily motor because of all the torque it has (almost twice an M20). Finding one at a junkyard is like $250, all in all it'll cost about 1k to swap it, and you'll love it.

The gaskets you should change are (and a maybe forgetting one or two) head gasket, oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket, intake/exhaust manifold gaskets, and get a new water pump and gasket (unless you just replaced yours).

Guys add to it if I forgot anything.

Do you already have a new M20, or are you still trying to decide/find another engine?

As far as gasket kits go, they come in two main sets. See here:

Rather then swap an entire different engine, why not just replace your head? There is a good chance no damage was done to the bottom end of the engine. Get a used head, have it gone through by a machine shop (pressure checked, deck, maybe a valve grind, new valve guide seals, etc) and slap it on.

I would agree more with Andrews advice. A swap is generally not a first timers project and a used motor may crap out on you sooner than you think.

Seriously consider doing a head swap, might save you a ton of hassle.

Well the engine in my car has 400k miles on it and burns a lot of oil. My uncle gave me an engine and it has 150,000 miles o. It. His motor runs perfect.
