    Suggestions needed for securing MHWs.

With the rise in popularity, cost and car parts being stolen, I need ideas.

For now I have removed my beloved MHWs. I want them installed. I have considered using lock nuts and safety wire. Or leave a rabid pit-bull in the trunk.

    Ideas?

Insurance. If someone is going to steal something, they are gonna do it no matter what.

Proper Insurance. The mainstream companies only go so far.

Insurance is a + but finding parts is where it gets frustrating. I'd say use the MHW's if you're going to car meet or show and have an eye on your car. As Mtechnik said if someone wants to steal it they'll steal it. If you use anti-theft precautions it'll lead to more than just having your MHW's stolen.

^^^^ Agreed. Finding MHWs seems to be a challenge. The car is alpine so the stock reds don't look that bad.

You could always loctite them, but in all honesty what good is a part if it's not on the car? I'd say run 'em and enjoy them. Chances are pretty low someone will steal tail lights if the trunk is locked.

If they're willing to break in to your trunk they're willing to do what it takes to remove the lights. And honestly if I was a thief and I went through all of that trouble and still couldn't remove them I'd probably just smash them to teach you a lesson. Harsh reality, I know.

If you're that paranoid about having them I'd recommend leaving them on the shelf or passing them along to somebody who will use them. Shit happens. Enjoy them.

USAA is pretty good about replacing valuable parts. Is the car stored inside. If not, most thieves know what they are and will probably just smash them as stated earlier if the trunk is locked.

What MR 325 said. Just install them on your car and enjoy them. I have MHW's on my coupe and would constantly worry about someone rear ending me or jacking them. I also thought about removing them and storing them in the garage but I came to the conclusion that it would be pointless to do that. They are made to be enjoyed and while it would be hard and expensive to find another pair, it would not be impossible. But ill take them off you and put them on my 'vert and keep a close eye on them, providing you with safety updates for your peace of mind.

Someone should just start reproducing the damn things. If Depo made a set that was priced close to the typical (ugly) ebay tails, this would no longer be a thing.

If someone wants the tail lights, or your car for that matter, then nothing is going to prevent it from happening. They will find a way.

So just install them, enjoy them and worry about other things instead.
