    That's any aluminum headed engine.

Wow I must be really lucky then, as most of my family has had nothing but GM, out of the 50+ combined gm vehicles we have had in my life time all have been dependable, and are hard to kill. Biggest issue any of us has had has been my current truck and injectors, but that's a local fuel quality issue not really gm's fault. Bosch if anything

My sister in law just got rid of hers, it was a 5 speed with an ungodly amount of mileage on it and I was always amazed that it never broke down. It looked like shit, everything on the interior was falling apart and the clutch was like pedaling a unicycle uphill, but it ran great. I mean, she beat the hell out of it too but it never broke down.

My wife had a corolla 5 speed and it was also indestructible. It faired a lot better than the cavalier in the looks department and things like door handles, trim etc. for the same amount of mileage but it was also super reliable. I think I put a starter on it at 120K and other than basic maintenance that was it.

Japanese econobox. Civic, Accord, Corolla, Camry, etc. Lots of people have bought these cars for good reason: they are dependable.

+1 on metros, my buddies has like 300k on it, it overheated and melted the spark plugs into the head, he impacted them out, put new ones in, still runs. He ran without coolant for a while without knowing, put it in, fine. no oil, who cares, still runs.

Yup. '96 civic lx sedan here. One owner, 180k for $1300. Easily one of the best automotive purchases I've ever made; bought it last fall and haven't done a thing to it other than oil changes. Five speed, cruise, power windows/locks, ice cold a/c, and gets 34mpg no matter how I drive it.

I do 90 miles round trip to into Boston all week, so whatever I commute in is just going to get used up. I always swore I'd never drive an "appliance" but e30s are not just disposeable old cars anymore. Turns out the civic is pretty fun to throw around when I feel the need anyway. Absolutely zero regrets.
