    whine, please pass the cheese

    yeap, whine whine whine.

    here's a vid of it... http://www.freakyfranky.net/bmwstuff/whine.AVI

it's on the spare 325iC, it had it then and it has it now, she sat for about 8 months.

    - today did Continental t.belt, tensioner, spring and WP.
    - ran it with and without a/c, wp/alt, p/s.
    - also ran it with and without lower t.belt cover as it had some old traces of rubbing.
    - also checked distributor and rotor, no binding there.

whine still there and not sure why, sounds like from forward side of engine.

heard about injectors or fuel pump whine, could that be it ?

my car makes a similar noise....but its more ungodly and metalgrinding sounding...i chalk it up to my car being a pile.

seems pretty loud to be injectors...

Auto or manual? Could be something with the clutch.

Is anything touching the pulleys? Do you have a stethoscope? If not go get one. Poke around the engine until you find the noise. Place it on the valve cover, in the front on the block, fuel pump, bell housing, etc. You will get the idea.

                  Hey mangs,
Thanks for all the great advise. *th-up*

Today de-tentioned T.Belt but it was not the problem

So, used a piece of vacum hose and found a leak between thermostat housing and head, that little gasket it's cracked in 3 pieces
(see enclosed pic), repaired it with some gasket glue and wistle went away for a little while,
so picked a replacement and will install it tomorrow., that should fix it. *par-t*

If not it, then injector # 1 "O Ring" it's all dryed up.

Well, it seems that's a triple fold leak.

                    - Replacing thermostat housing gasket did quiet it down but still whistle a bit, just not as loud.

                    - So, proved again with a vacuum hose, still can hear it leak in frontal area, near 1st injector, sprayed area with Disc Brake cleaner and idle roused, so swapped all of the O Rings on manifold as well as on Fuel Rail side.
Engine idles a lot better, whistle diminished even more, now it's somewhat faint and you can actually hear suction sound of vacuum leak.

                    - Proved around yet again and yeap, vacuum leak persists between thermostat housing and first stud of intake manifold, so, next step will be intake manifold gaskets.

Did find 2 loose screws on fuel rail as well as not tight enough nuts on forward side of intake manifold., some of the O Rings on Fuel Rail had splits and one on actual injector was missing a small piece., so, some progress was made after all.

                      no more whine, problem solved

as I pray open the engine and lay the manifold aside, the true villain was revelead... some genius jammed in a second gasket on top of a leaky one, never mind the other 5, hahahha...

she purrs like a ... rebuilt one, just got to re-gap her valves

                      new video...

what a beauty, that's some heck a patch up !!!

just for reference, this is how much over sized the gaskets are...

                      offending # 1 outlet (#1)

                      # 1 intake port

                      5 clean outlets...
