My fiance's IX is having problems so I told him to write me a detailed description (considering he's the one that drives it) so I could possibly get an answer. Damn thing! We just put several hundred dollars into it and I'm trying to get money so I can get my m20b25 motor swap done, but it's hard when his car his having trouble. Please give some advice! It would be greatly appreciated!
"I just put a brand new starter in my 88 325 IX, and there are no ground or connection problems with the battery. I am still having trouble starting my car and taking off in first gear, which seems to be a fuel problem. It takes too long to start, and when I try to take off in first gear it will either sputter( as in go a few feet then stop like it is not getting any fuel, or almost die, like my tank is empty, and then start to go. Also, I will frequently, but not always, smell gas from the rear, but have not been able to specifically identify where the smell/leak is originating from. Also, my fuel level gauge will often jump back and forth.
My engine temperature gauge will red line a mere one to two minutes after starting up my car. I believe it to be faulty, or is it a possiblity that my car is overheating. Is there another simple way to test the temperature of my engine?"
