I'm composing a BMW E30 "Buyer's Checklist" for submission as a tech article. Here's what I have thus far:

CHECK POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL
CHECK ALL LIGHTS: headlights, taillights, stop lights, turn signals, back up lights, clearance lights, dome lights
MAINTENANCE:
• If M42 318i look for profile gasket leakage/replacement
• If M20 325e/i check last timing belt replacement

MECHANICAL
CHECK OPERATION OF THE FOLLOWING ITEMS:
• Horn
• Wipers, all speeds
• Heater operation- fan & temp control
• Radio, antenna, speakers
• Cigarette lighter
• Rear de-fog
• Dash lights
• Seat adjustments (all seats)
• Brakes – pedal, motor cylinder and calipers
• Clutch, transmission
• Wheel balance
• All windows work properly
• All doors open & close well, locks work
• Trunk & hood, trunk locks
• Seat belts
• Jack & tire changing tools
• Check bumpers
