    I need advice!!

Hi guys, I'm new to this site and just recently fell in love with BMW's. Luckily for me, my dad has a BMW that has been covered in our garage for about a year. It is a 1998 328i convertible. He informed me that it needs a new transmission. Everything else is pretty good with the car. Well, I'm looking to spend about 2k to 2500 on a new car. My question is, would it be cheaper for me to buy a new transmission for my dad's old car, or try my luck browsing for better(newer) bmw's online?

A 98 is a E36, you're on a E30 forum. What years of the BMWs do you like?

You could probably get a decent E30 for $2500, I did. As far as replacing the trans in the E36...if you did it yourself it would not cost $2000-2500...I don't know what a shop would charge but I'm betting it wouldn't be less than $1500

I like all types I don't have a favorite yet. Thank you for the feedback and is there a particular thread for the 36?

Might wanna try bimmerforums. Get a new trans for that thing. If it's a manual you can get a trans for $250-400 depending on miles/condition. If you've done it before you can swap it out in less than a day. That'd be a pretty cheap (first?) car
