    1998 Grand Cherokee Limited 5.9

Thinking about one of these for a winter car. There are like 5 for sale in NE right now. Besides transfer cases, some transmission issues and terrible gas mileage what can I expect from these? (I know to check for rust and electrical gremlins)

Anyone have any experiences with the worlds fastest SUV of 1998?

    Pics for attention!

I prefer a 4runner over one of these for winter driving.

I'd like a four runner too but the rust issues with those in NE is ridonkulous. Also if it ain't rusty it's out of my price range!

96+ 4 runners are overpriced and 89-95 with the v6 are junk

A samurai is a trail only vehicle no power horrible ride and handling

Grand cherokees are pretty decent imo

I'd like to keep my car free of rust. Plus I have snowmobiles and the wife drives a GC Laredo that I am very familiar with. Just don't know much about the v8's and this 5.9 intrigues me.

the terrible transmissions alone should make you not want one of them, youd be better off with a regular cherokee

Anyone not buying a 4.0L cherokee is doing it wrong.

I liked my Land Cruiser a lot. Bullet proof 4.5 I6, stock axles would take 37's without issue, and 2.5" of lift would clear 35's or 37's with cutting.

My roommate had a '98 5.9 back in college. That thing was awesome, I say go for it. I sometimes wonder why I spent so much on my '03 X5 that doesn't even do as well in the snow as that 5.9 would have. I realllly dislike the rear torque bias and open diffs on the X. With the 5.9 you get mechanical limited slips in the front, center, and rear diff.

I'd skip dedicated snows for the 5.9, but a good set of 30" General Grabber AT2's would be great all year for it, and they are snowflake approved. These are what I put on the X to make up for it's milktoast AWD system and love them.

                            I also snowmobile so I can relate; I've got a '98 XC 700
