Tips for cleaning engine with Carb Cleaner?

Any tips for easily cleaning my engine with Carb Cleaner and steel wool? Started today after I washed the car, but it got dark soon after I started. Going to clean it thoroughly tomorrow and am looking for any tips that you may have.

Ditch that crap. Get purple power. Do alot of coats let it sit. + pressure washer.

I have never known this but what do you have to cover or be not spray when you pressure wash an engine bay, distributer...is that it?

I always wrap a plastic grocery bag over the distributor and the fuse box. The other parts of the engine will be alright, just don't directly spray a shitload of cleaner/water in places like the spark plug holes, etc.
