Found out the DMV back fees. 798.00. Not looking to pay that for a car I'm purchasing for way less.

Am I shit out of luck?

Is there any way to get it legally in my name without paying that?

if you cant afford $1500 for an e30, you can afford an e30.
give the guy $500 and pay the fees. 89 325i are about as good as it gets for an e30

Already got an e30. I'm just looking at one that seemed to be a damn good deal. For the purchase price and the back fees, I can keep looking. I may really lowball the guy, keep it in my garage, and part it out. Then when it's parted, scrap it.

I've heard of a couple of friends getting fees knocked down a bit from a friendly DMV or AAA employee but I don't know if it's a guaranteed thing.

Man, California is nuts. The fee for a title transfer here in Oregon is $77. Then $86 for registration for two years. Done and done.

Looks clean enough to save, imo.

                    It's a bronzit.

Find a different car, a properly done respray is expensive ;)
Drive it hard. Maintain it well.
