How to build a reliable e30?

I'm looking at picking up an iX for winter driving this year and I just want the thing not to break down. I've owned e30s that have given me nothing but problems. If I were to buy the car, what would you reccomand having checked out/repaired/replaced so I can get a winter of trouble-free driving?

If you don't believe there is such a thing as a reliable e30, then what sort of parts would you keep in stock (especially an iX)?

    Thanks as always,
    - Colin

Preventative maintenance is key. Every part on the car has service life. Once it reaches the end of that service life it needs replaced. My e30, even with an m50'swap has been extremely reliable aside from a few things all older cars will need (fuel pump).
