      Yes - but I'd vote to do it now unless you think you'll over rev it with the seta head. It'll save time later and the hassle of doing the entire engine harness.

      If you're short on time, leave the seta harness/ecu system whole, but you'll likely need to yank your existing 'i' harness for the seta harness and ecu, and you might need to look around the engine bay for a few other items. There might be an additional fuel regulator on the return line that's not on the 'i' - at least there was on the 528es I used for mine. Take a bit to look through all the lines and electrics before you pull everything - label the wires and connectors, fuel lines, etc.
      Driving is the only way to go faster....

            Hmmm...not sure on that one but I don't think so. The ecu's will plug into one another. The only thing I'd be worried about is different ICV connections than the 'i'? I recall they're different but I was working with some really odd ball engines when I did mine (528e to 325is). I'm really not able to give you much on this one without being there to look at everything.

                can always lift the engine like I did. 2 good ratcheting tiestraps, 2 studs. cost $1.25 for the studs, you probably can round up some straps from home or a friend. I just hooked the tie straps onto the lift points and hung he engine from the studs, the short sides top and bottom.
                2 people could lift the motor holding the studs, 4 would be a cakewalk. It's like the ark of the covenant.

                    Long, long day today - and I've still got another 8 hours of work before I can take a few hours and sleep.

                    Last night (thurs) I had a friend get my car towed from the Meineke I left it at to my garage, and put it in the garage for me. One less thing for me to worry about. I went there after work around midnight and pulled it backwards onto some ramps - it's the only way to get a jack underneath, and it gave me a bit more breathing room for the work I did today.

                    Before I left, I attempted to get the SETA out of the barn, but failed miserably. I got it wedged in a corner and ran out of juice in the jump pack.

                    Today I got up a little before 11am and headed to TMS (5 minutes from my garage) in hopes of picking up some odds and ends - not that I'd need them by the end of the day. TMS had the backup light sensor - that was it. So I called Andy at Bav and had him throw the rest of the stuff together, and drove up to grab it. Got back to the garage around 12:30 or so, jacked the rear end of the SETA up and had my friend push it sideways, and we got it facing in the right direction. The auto tranny was junk, but we got it to stick in reverse long enough to drive it all the way back to the garage :)

                    Jacked up the front end of the vert and threw some jack stands under it, ripped off the hood, and got to work. Had just about everything unhooked, so headed to pick up the hoist. Ate some dinner and got back to the shop. Hit the first snag - one of the 12 studs holding the manifolds to the head was stripped and all but inaccessible - so off to Home Depot to grab some sawzall blades. Back to the shop, sliced through the manifold, started hoisting the engine. Snagged a power steering line, it came off the rack - woo. Got wedged on the firewall, popped out pretty violently, but I don't see any collateral damage - yet. Somehow the driveshaft - though unbolted from the trans, had decided to come along for the ride - ripped the center of the CSB clean out. Gotta pull that and make sure it gets aligned properly. I had remembered to disconnect the bitch clip that holds the shift carrier in...but forgotten to disconnect the selector rod. Sooooo the trans pulled the shift lever right out with the tranny. Boo. Doesn't look harmed.

                    Wheeled the battered motor aside, removed the motor mounts for a better look at the hole - pics to come. About this point Brew showed up, we chatted and he got to work grabbing his new carpet from one of my cars. I dropped the entire exhaust, separated the cat-back, and grabbed the midsection to be welded - the flange one of the manifolds bolts to had broken off before this whole ordeal, so what better time to get it welded back on!

                    Threw the mid section in the truck, headed home, took a shower, and headed to work.

                    Tomorrow, clean up the engine bay a bit, see what else I may need, then wheel the SETA in to do it all over again. Hopefully some guys can come help - I'm going to be exhausted!

                      So I'm a bit concerned about the driveshaft - since the front half pulled out against my will, I didn't bother to mark the halves to make sure it was reinstalled properly. How can I make sure everything goes back together as it should?

                        Mine has a white mark on it from the factory, or another mechanic. Check to see if your did too.

                          I have seen others post a comment to that effect - never looked at mine to see if it had dots on it.

                            Sounded like a ball! Or maybe, it sounds like it licked balls. Not too too bad, rustiness usually brings shit to a grinding halt a lot worse than that. You must have used an entire contractors pack of Sawzall blades on that cast manifold!

                            Well I raise my beer glass to you. Better luck on the super eta extraction and installation!

                              It could have been a lot worse :) And we only used 5 blades total on the exhaust manifolds - both the i ones and the super eta ones :) We're just that good!
