    thinking of getting an rx7

So in my quest to find a cheap auto, I came across this rx7 thats for sale locally. Bottom line, the price is right for what i want to do with it. Its got 137k miles with lots of new parts replaced. Should go through an inspection pretty easy. He says paint isnt very good, but I'm not really looking for an attractive car. I'll be taking the e30 off the road for awhile to save it from the baltimore roads and vandals. It will also be nice for the downtime while I swap the motor.

    Any thoughts, feedback, warnings?

Get the N/A Rx-7.... the turbo models are ticking time bombs. The N/A Rx-7s will run forever on frequent tune ups.

Buy my roommate's FC TurboII. Banged up pretty bad down one side...runs pretty well though.

My friend just picked up an FC the other day and just finished installing an LSD this morning. I haven't driven it yet, but it should be nice.

Unless you have the wealth at Fort Knox at your disposal, I would not suggest getting a turbo rx-7, matinence will chew a hole through your wallet.

This is just a NA 13b. So Im hoping id be okay as far as the motor goes, but that is the only thing leaving me weary right now, since I dont know much about the rotaries. Everything else about the car sounds good to me.

I don't know shit about rotary power either, but if the price seems right, it could prove to be a fun daily driver for awhile. Are there any Mazda "experts" near you that could do full PPI?

Make some friends who can teach you how to work on it. Apex seals sound difficult.

Talk to R3V member Alecs Macdonald. That was his dream car for as long as I can remember. He studied up on the rx-7 at least 4 years.

Run away if it has overheated.

FCs are awesome cars though, good luck!

Ask if the OP has ever replaced the Apex seals.Replacing these is a pain, but you said its an auto so if they were replaced recently they should be good.

Rx7's have been known to overheat,so check up on that.

Are you planning to DD the FC?

You said you dont know much about the rotaries, well I say this would be the prefect car to start learning.Fc's are easier to learn on than the FD's.

My cousin and I are big rotary fans.My cousin owned 2 FD's and 3 FC's. I'm planning to a FD myself.

                        Don't Waste Your Time

My DD is an NA RX-7 - I bought it used, but it had a reman motor put in at 144k miles. 137k miles is very close to that. That and a rotary engine won't get mileage anywhere near your e30, i get about 16 city, 21 highway. Finally, an automatic RX-7 is a very bad choice because the rotary engine was made to rev high and the torque converters don't exactly work well at 8000 rpm.

On the other hand, an RX-7 is tons of fun, and if treated poorly sells inexpensively - but even moreso than with other cars, skimping on the maintenance or oil check will be hurt the car more.

Also, check out aaron cake's advice http://www.aaroncake.net/RX-7/

                        Hope that that helps.

IF u get it cheap enough run it till the motor dies, then put in a 'gasp' SBC motor. Incredibly well supported swap. see: http://www.grannysspeedshop.com/ and http://v8rx7.com/

The challenge guys at grassroots do it every year. Lot of bang for the buck.

I meant to say cheap automobile in the first post. This car is a 5 speed.

Im not really sure what to say now. I've probably got a half and half response to one of these things. I probably wouldnt have this car but a few months until I move out of my current location, in which time I'd sell it or trade it for something else. I see mazda rates them at 17/24. I dont drive hard at all, so I think I might be able to get 24-25 (feedback) I can get this car cheap. Here are some pictures of it. Tell me how much you'd spend on it, or think its worth.

                            Thanks.

providing the underside is rust free and runs well, and the interior is good, around here I see them for $1200-1500. If it runs poorly, the price would be more like 6-800.

From the pics, looks pretty clean.

would be a fun car, I've driven with a few and they held their own, had to stop for gas a lot compared to my prelude though.
