What about a cheap beater with clean title and swap all the goods over. Then sell the rest. My thing is just if you don't plan on keeping the salvage forever. It's harder to sell a salvaged title. Just my opinion

"All the goods" would mean 60% of the car, sans the base chassis, counting in all the parts you change. Basically a complete rebuild if started. That would mean at least 10-15k more invested in the car. And I'm not even counting on all the stuff I would encounter and not be able to fix =D

Plus, the donor car would have to be an 325is too - if I wanted to sell it later on - it could well be an "upgraded" 316 from the buyers perspective.

I don't even know what a nice 325is is worth on the market tbh. XD

        Seriously

Here is Cali, these cars are a dime a dozen. With a salvage title, I would ditch it and transfer all the goodies over to a decent owner. You can spend some serious money on these cars, might as well start with a decent platform. Yes, because of the blue book, a hamer to a fender will salvage these cars but most people will think the worse. Unless you are seriously planning on keeping it forever, I would think otherwise.
