I used the old kind for a short time on my E36 M3. Despite user stupidity, I thought it was pretty accurate. Of course, if you want more valuable info to tune to, you'd be better off (and save some $ and tickets) doing a dyno.

Only real quam was that I had to unplug the detector to plug in the g tech

either autoweek or automobile had an artice comparing the Gtech and the one made by passport. They were decently accurate, i'll find the article this evening for the full details

I dunno...my friend pulled a 6.5 with his bone stock corrodo vr6 according to the g-tech, and I don't think corrodos are THAT quick.

I have a g tech and have no complants about it. Seems to be acc. With my hp test it was about 4 hp off of a dyno and thats close enough for me seeing i dont have money to dyno my car everytime i add anther upgrade.

My question is if its off 4 hp from the dyno; will it be off by the same ammount in the same direction the next time you test?

hum I dont know about that one. If it was that would be cool because then I could just subtract 4 hp from what ever it gives me but I dought life is that good....

That is not the G-tech Pro, but the COMP model.

I have one and love it for tuning, and seeing what's going on. It's very accurate for testing. EC and some other maybe have stated it's about .02sec optimistic on 1/4 and maybe a tenth on 0-60

more importunity it's accurate from day to day.

The Comp also has a laptop download capability with cool charts and stuff, it also has corner G lights.

My fren just got delivery of his G Tech Pro and I was there to do 'product testing' hehehe

tried it on my car and a few other cars.

                          E30 318i M42B18 slight mod - 8.77sec
E36 318i M40B18 bone stock- 12.39 sec (recently converted from auto to manual)
                          E30 325i M20B25 modded - 7.81 sec
E30 SR20DET - 6.19 sec. (Turbo boost is moderately high)

Average time for each car is not far off the best times.
These best times are done by me and all of them had a good launch. If the launch is a little screwed, it adds another 0.5 sec to the 0 - 60mph time.

Will try out the HP calculation feature tomoro nite.
I didn't read thru the whole manual but was told the weight of the car needs to be entered to calculate the HP.
If it's true, anyone can provide me the weight of an E30 318i 4 door with M42B18? Can i assume the weight at 1200kg?

I think the g-tech is right on. Bone stock vr6 averaged just around 6.5 according to these test results from actual road tests. With the standing quarter mile at 15.2.
