Help me make a decision on this E30 Vert!!

Ok, so there is this E30 325i on Craigslist and I have an opportunity of buying it. I went and test drove it and it has a fairly crisp gearbox! It's on coilovers and has an aftermarket exhaust. There is one or 2 minor dings on the trunk lid from some hail and the back window of the convertible has fallen out. It has 156K and the current owner does not have maintenance records (I will have it checked out by a mechanic before buying). It's a 1993 (Plastic bumpers!!!) and was a blast to drive. It looks very clean. I didn't see any rust on it either. So, what is it worth if it checks out at a mechanic?

    Here are a few pics:

'93 is the last year they made the e30, depending on engine shape and suspension condition I think you can offer around 1,800-2,500 and see what happens. I don't know what their price is, so it is hard to judge from that alone. Depending on coilovers, it could raise or lower value depending on what they installed. Interior is pretty rough; torn seats, cracked dash stained carpet. The engine looks to be kinda clean...but that does not matter. Timing, and other items add up fast.

Can you work on it or have someone that does affordable work? e30s are easy to work on but they almost always need work to get road worthy.

Crawl under the car and knock on the frame points to look for rot, the vert rusts out there and the trunk area(due to the top drains). My brother has owned 2 verts and I know them very well, they are a ton of fun in the summer!

This is his current vert that I built for him:

He loves the vert, has only owned them since he was 16, now 25 and on his second. He also owns the hardtop for his vert...good luck finding one for less than that price of the car lol. Offer the owner 2k cash and see what happens, that is after you find a member from this forum to come look at it don't waste time with some local mechanic, have a seasoned member come out and take a look for you. I have done it before many times, 30.00 or some beer+gas money whatever just get some knowledgeable advice.

Just posted a thread asking any Colorado members to take a look at it. He had it listed at 3k when I went to look at it and wouldn't take 2k so I walked. He just contacted me saying he can do $2300.

Does the power top work still?
Does the top leak? Is it original top?
What do you mean the window fell out?

Just make sure it doesn't have electrical and mechanical problems. Looks like a fun car. I'm a vert owner, and summer drives make it totally worth it. Handling is worse the coupes obviously and a lot of things are disappointing about it being a vert if you drive it through the winter as well, but like I said summers totally make it worth owning. I think you should go for it.

I have vert, I like the car very much. Things to think about.. The top doesnt seal too well, due to the rubber being old and if it rains alot they leak alittle bit of water in the right and left front corners near the windows. Besides the water issues I like my vert alot and have invested alot of money into it. I would check the vins or actually see if the diff is LSD, check the suspension, and for rust around the front fenders, Bottom part where the rock shield is.

$2300 for a 93 vert in relatively good shape with some decent aftermarket bits? Do it.
