Thinking about a purchase on e30, how does this one look

I'm hoping for no rust and if a whole CHUNK of the 100-150k "maintenance pit" was already done then it should be ok?

I've seen some m20 motors go 300-400k without a problem so the miles there I'm not worried as much.

I already asked about the health of various other things he didn't mention such as axles, transmission,rust, cracked dash, clutch etc.

That's about £3k in proper money, over here the parts would be worth more than that by the look of it.
Like the fact it's mechanic owned, seems well maintained so mileage not so much of an issue, don't like the styling.

I'd look at it and if it checks out ok on inspection I'd...

Maybe I'm weird but I like the chin spoiler. Or maybe I was just watching barrett jackson earlier today and they had a beautiful 1970 GT500 on deck...

stuff like the oil pan gasket is a pretty involved job. I'm not sure why he blew big money on bills but then paired them with JOM springs. The steering wheel alone is like 300 bucks new and the sport seats look in okay shape and dash looks fine with no cracks. Nice floor mats (aka same as what I have ;) )

There was a thread on here last night about the front license plate delete panel he has which is now out of production.

Without the chin spoiler I would take off the eyebrows and sell them, paint the kidneys chrome, and get a shift knob that matches the steering wheel. With the amount of work he's put into it I'd be okay paying somewhere around his price if the car feels clean and well sorted.

some more pictures in a little bit, it has small dash cracks and a crack on the bumper. Is there any negative to having dash cracks? Are you breathing any of the dash material in by any chance?

Side note, I have a 635csi (Dash has a cracks across the dash\) that sometimes blows in some dusty pollen like substance, perhaps the material foam under the hood or perhaps the foam like gasket ring thing on a dash vent. If anyone knows what I'm talking about, feel free to let me know a quick fix.

You can buy a repair kit, like a liquid filler. It won't look perfect, but it will look better and at least it will be sealed up.

There's nothing too dangerous in there anyway. Think about it, if you crashed they wouldn't want any nasties showered over you.

Looks like a nice enough car, with some good maintenance, but that steering wheel and lip suck balls. Not $4600 worth of car really!

Imo don't buy a modified car. Too many e30s these days are owned by kids who don't know what theyre doing. Hell I didn't know what I was doing when I had my first e30.

Buy some granny's old stock e30 and work from there.

The downside to buying a car that's already had work done to it is you don't get to learn how to do it yourself, which is what really makes it YOUR car.

I would argue that the bumper crack is expected of a 25 year old car, and therefore I wouldn't care, but I wouldn't pay 4.5k for an old car with a bumper crack. If that makes sense. e30 prices are crazy so if you're looking for something to learn to mod, scour craigslist for something less than a grand and just dive into it. You're going to be paying 4k eventually anyway so you might as well get a cheap car and do it increments as work done to the car.


My car has that same dash crack near the hvac vent and it doesn't have any negative effects other than showing the car's age.
