    Importing a touring

I read this interesting article http://autoweek.com/article/car-life...g-their-way-us and I love the look of the touring. Does anyone have one on here? It seems like our old subaru but with sweet e30ness

There's a guy on craigslist on the west coast that imports and sells them for about $10k-$15k. There only seems to be one up at a time, probably to create demand and make them look rare. From what I read he does a good amount of work making sure he gets good cars, he has a guy in germany or something like that checking them out in person. I think right now it's an iX.

Coming across today's Nice Price or Crack Pipe BMW for sale in the U.S. is like finding Sasquatch, the Loch Ness Monster, and a contrite Kanye West all playing tiddlywinks together in your bathroom. Unicornish as it may be, is its price also a rare sight?

It's not terribly difficult to import a touring, or any car over 25 years old. In fact, I have two tourings, a 318i, a 320i, with a 324td set to join them in two weeks! At least five others on r3v have tourings, so look to see more and more of them roaming the streets.

They are quite practical, and drive very much like a stock 325ix in terms of handling. Yet, they are just standard E30s, and people asking 10-15k for them is a bit crazy. Of course, I should mention that touring prices in Europe are on the rise, so if you really want a touring and don't want to break the bank now is the time to get one.

To demonstrate the cargo capacity, this is a bad picture of my 318 with a 50cc scooter in the back:

Unless you live in California, they try and piss you off until the car is a 1975 or older. Ugh.

Yes, CA is a pain like that, but if you are willing to spend the money/hassle for inspection/testing there is no reason any E30 in good shape with on par with US smog equipment wouldn't pass.

Always have been interested in importing a car... But I have heard too many nightmare stories to ignore. A Touring would be a godly awesome car.

I have one! Selling it to grab another though. A better one to bring back. I was lucky enough to be stationed in Germany in the Army. I know quite a few Air Force guys bring them back from Rammstein as well.

The hardest part is finding a good one to import. I looked for a good 2 months, but my lack of German and the fact that I'm here made it rare to get any kind of response.

Also remember that there are many fixed costs when it comes to importing a car so get the best one possible.
Drive it hard. Maintain it well.

Couldn't you just import one from Canada? I see them all the time on Craigslist across the country too...

Doug DeMuro has been writing about this recently. His articles appear to have all the bases covered.

I'm starting up some import and exporting business from europe towards the USA.
If anyone is interested in a Touring I can help you with your purchase and shipping.

If anyone is interested send me a pm and I could help you. Euro cars are cheap these day while the DOLLAR rate is good compared to the Euro
