when my dealership looked up the vin on my old 95 M3 they were able to tell me previous owners and factory warranty work done to it, can you pull any of that info? id especially like to know how many owners this car has had

That makes sense.

Sometimes the VIN decoder can be hard to tell on this stuff. I've seen the "IS" designation on other model year VIN builds...and some without, but I think all 87 model year 2 doors were built as "IS" versions, so the build sheet may not specify that designation, since it is assumed. Clear as mud?

Thanks for the reply the dealer said something about well it looks like an i that they added all of the iS options to. This didn't make sense to me but since I wasn't there buying a new 70K X5 they weren't all that interested in helping me.

I'll get you next time around with your option info - but FYI the VIN decoder just pulls options/build info - not prior owner info. That would be a different database and one that is guarded by various privacy laws. Cannot help you there.

Yup - I'm pretty sure the "short VIN" doesn't work, I think they started using long VINs around 84 - so anything right around then is hit or miss. Sorry.:(

Mine work but I never use them. There is high and low and the high can be too hot. They work in all spots and have held up well to a leaky top.
