Kind of odd experience with TireRack

What size/type tires are you mounting?

The ones I'm putting on are 205/50 Firestones, and I'll be putting on 205/50 BF Goodrich G-Force Sports when I get around to it, but I'm thinking about looking for something in 215.

Its a liability thing. Tire companies get sued a LOT since the Explorer/Firestone issues - and they got sued a fair amount before then.

The distributors of products can be held liable for selling defective items as well. If they sell you a tire that is not the "correct" size for your car, in theory it could come back to haunt them.

Not saying I like the policy, but I fully understand it. Discount Tire will sell you whatever, but they will tell you that the tire is the wrong one and they may disclaim the warranty.

That exactly what I do --- lie my ass off when I speak to Tire Rack, as they have many similar experiences w/ them. They are covering their butts, and like Heeter said, trying not to sell the wrong shit to morons.

my e30 is a 1996 jetta when I call them, havn't had any problems thus far...

eurospeed: I am also going to be running a set of type e's on my 318is, 8mm is all you are going for as far as spacers? just curious thats all...

The wheels are ET35 and I got away with 8mm spacers while using 225/45 tires on a moderately lowered car - early arches though, don't know if the later lower ones would be a problem.

well when those eventually where out from heat, look into the metal jobbies. I think it was vulcan tire or discount tire direct or something

Somehow a local car group got on some sort of GP list and I got added. W00t for cheap prices.

And tirerack is odd that their policy/info changes depending on who you talk to. I was looking into some BBSs that they had on their site and I called a few times. Once I was told they were direct fit and that they didnt need spacers, once I was told they needed spacers but they were fine, and another I was told they couldnt sell them to be because they wouldnt fit my car.

So I said fuggit and got the Alpinas.

The Alpinas are et28 and they were able to fit 225s on the back of late model cars.

its been discussed on the e34 board to. basically some people wont sell you the rings unless you get rims at the same thing. i think they arent supposed to sell them but some people dont care, not worth arguing with a customer when you can just sell them the rings and let the customer do whatever he wants with them.
