You guys have no idea how much skill it takes to weld aluminum cleanly. It is a whole 'nother world from steel.

I do. I can weld aluminum, but like you said, it is a BITCH to make it look nice. TONS of practice. Much easier I've heard using a TIG, but then again, TIG welding is harder to learn then MIG.

You have any pics? I didn't know there was a factory skidplate. I really don't know that much about the whole BMW thing, so just like the rubber plug for the clutch area I welded up (shows in one of the pics) maybe there's an easier way than me breaking out the welder all the time. Custom is cool and all, but in the end I spend too much time in the garage.

ok, i had to read this over agian a few times, well just the last part "I spend too much time in the garage."
how can anyone spend too much time in their garage, its where motor-heads and e30 lovers spend all there time. lol

This is the best I can do. Trust me, you will hit something if you drive on the street. The E34 pan is just too low. I hit a manhole cover at the bottom of a hill as my suspension was compressing at speed. I NAILED IT!!! I immediately shut it down and checked it out. The factory skidplate took the full force of the impact and was only scuffed.

With your skills, I'm sure you could make something as nice if not nicer...
