    84 E30 325e, Axle non ABS? what's the difference?

    Hey guys so I have an '84 E30 2 door, The cv axle broke at my last drift event and now I'm trying to replace it. So far I've pulled CV's from a late model and tried to install them but they hit the back of the Hub and prevent the wheel / axle from spinning. Is there a certain axle I need for the 84? I read somewhere that they changed the wheel bearing size from 37mm to 42mm ?

    I've also considered swapping in the late model subframe but I'm not 100% sure it'll just swap using the existing points. I have a buddy with a late model parts car that I can get it from cheap. Would it be worth it to use the slightly bigger axle?

    I have a comparison photo I'll upload and then bump this thread with.

    Any help would be appreciated. ( I now have 4 cv axles which don't work with my car )

    The one on the right in both pictures is the one that failed, the one on the left is what I keep finding everywhere online.

    anyone know part numbers or have any knowledge on these?

      Looks like 2 different part numbers, ABS vs non ABS.

        Well, if he has a parts car. Grab the rear control arms and parking brake cables from the parts car. It's the same subframe and you get a bonus brake upgrade.

            Yeah, I ran into the same problem a few years back. Any 86+ car will have the larger axles. Get the trailing arms from them.

              I know the abs ring on the axle can be removed. That might help fit into your non abs trailing arm/ hub assembly

                Thanks for the help I'll post an update when I get it fixed. Probably going to use the rear control arms / trailing arms from the parts car and see how it goes. I should be good to blow up more axles then.

                  I used the non ABS axles with disc brake trailing arms. Not sure if it works the other way around. Worst case you can tap off the ABS tone rings with a screwdriver.
