Me too. Seen it happen with M10's, M30's, dual cams... I get a kick whenever I see someone selling a head and have pictures taken just sitting on a hard surface.

OP, I do feel for you. Good luck on getting it sorted, think of it as part of the E30 hazing process.

Thanks! I've decided to get a second car and user this one to learn how to work on engines.

The initial franticness is starting to subside and I'm kind of (kind of!!) excited I'll be learning something new.

I know how you feel! My car wont start and I was all like I need it to work but now I'm like I can still get places without the e30, just going to take it as a learning process and grow my skills until I eventually get her going. All these timing belt threads make me want to do mine, some of the crap I've found on my car lead me to believe that the belt was probs not done either!

in all likelihood, the head(or at least a few valves) are fucked like chuck. plan on either getting it rebuilt if you are lucky or replacing it.

Bummer. At least you're looking at it as a learning opportunity. Also you get to buy some new tools (e-torx bits).

Bummer dude. In all honesty, without any maintenance records, the timing belt should have been the very first thing on your list. I wouldn't have driven it around until it was done.

Lesson learned (and for all you E30 newbs as well)... beware ye of the unknown timing belt, lest ye lose your head. ;)

I bought my e30 vert last year with the m20. The last record of the timing belt was 2006 I think and about 100km. The whole car ride home I was praying lol belt didn't seem to have any cranks or anything. After a 2 hour ride I got home and parked it in the driveway for a couple weeks and then did the timing belt lol
