I need a Dropcam like solution for garage

My current option is to get a hot spot with wi-fi and have Dropcam w/ power back-up installed into a wall.

Obviously; that's pricey. I have free optimium online Wi-Fi but that requires a browser to sign in. Can't find a camera that can do that and I'm pretty sure they will kick you off.

Is there a camera that takes a SIM/comes with data plan that can alert/stream video? I don't care about the price.

    Thanks!

Have you seen the Arlo camera systems? They are completely wireless, and will stream to your phone and you get motion alerts. And made by Netgear so should work well and easy to setup on your network. The down side is that you have to replace the battery every 6 months or so. They also sell them at Best Buy.
Arlo is America’s #1 internet-connected camera brand, offering HD & 4K security cameras, doorbells & smart lighting. Shop Arlo cameras & accessories.

Whats your internet situation in your garage? Is it close to the house?

^^^From what he is describing, that won't work.

Just to clarify, you have to log in through a browser like you would at a hotel or something, correct? If so, you are pretty much screwed for using that internet.

You could get a data card for a laptop/computer and then use a webcam. Probably be the easiest.

Well if you want to just throw money at it. lol

Considering you are in NY and I've never been there, we've probably never met. Unless you came to the e30 picnic in Washington at some point.

Well any mobile hotspot is capped at a certain GB threshold per month. Dropcam uses a lot of bandwidth- especially when you sign up and pay for recording.

Any wifi around at all? If you find an unprotected network, you can always buy wifi extender and use that to get the signal close to your garage.

As Andrew stated- a laptop/webcam with some sort of security software will probably be ideal- but Dropcams are pretty sweet- I love mine for security/seeing what the dog is up to during the day.

Yeah that was what I was worried about but the device I'm getting:

              http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...f_rd_i=desktop

Only starts to record / etc when there is a breach/temperature/smoke or movement. Or if you want to stream. It's not 24/7.

              Correct me if I'm wrong.

Per camera maker "1 35 second clip is 7-10 mb, so alerts are even less!"

Two cars in garage in and out 2x a day (let's say) that would be covered. The camera device has build in back-up failover and hot spot will be charging. In case power is cut we are still in business.

This is the best option if you guys are looking for something simular. About $350 start-up cost and then $100 on 90GB(?) of non-expiring data.

                Can't really beat that
